Recovering from an ankle fusion (arthrodesis) can be a challenging journey, as it involves significant changes in mobility and lifestyle. StrideOn Knee Walkers have proven to be invaluable companions during ankle fusion recovery, providing comfort, stability, and flexibility that can make all the difference in the healing process.
Understanding Ankle Fusion Recovery
Ankle fusion, or arthrodesis, is a surgical procedure aimed at permanently joining the bones of the ankle joint. This procedure is often recommended for individuals with severe ankle arthritis, instability, or chronic pain, where other treatment options have been exhausted. Following the surgery, patients may experience limited ankle movement and are often required to keep weight off the affected leg during the initial stages of recovery.
The Role of StrideOn Knee Walkers
StrideOn Knee Walkers offer a game-changing solution for those undergoing ankle fusion recovery. Unlike traditional crutches, which can place strain on the upper body and require significant balancing efforts, knee walkers provide a more stable and hands-free mobility option. By resting the knee on the comfortable cushioned platform, users can effortlessly move around, reducing the impact on the affected ankle and allowing for a smoother recovery process. Every Ankle Operation is different and so are the recovery times and periods of non-weight bearing. To meet this variable, Strideon Knee Walkers are available to rent on a week by week basis. You can simply email or phone them to extend the hire period by the week as you need it then when your recovery has advanced to weight bearing, just call the Strideon team to book return collection.
Comfort and Flexibility
StrideOn Knee Walkers are designed with user comfort in mind. The adjustable knee pad and handlebars can be tailored to suit individual height and preferences, the knee pad can also be turned 90 degrees to suit either a left or right ankle injury, ensuring a comfortable fit for every user. This level of customization enhances user confidence and reduces any discomfort during prolonged use.
The knee walker’s ease of use allows individuals to navigate various indoor and outdoor terrains with confidence. Whether it’s manoeuvering around the house, running errands, or even going for a leisurely stroll in the park, StrideOn Knee Walkers adapt to different environments, empowering users to maintain an active lifestyle during their recovery journey.
Promoting Independence and Healing
Regaining independence after an ankle fusion is crucial for overall well-being and mental health. StrideOn Knee Walkers foster independence by enabling users to manage day-to-day activities without relying on constant assistance. Being able to move freely and carry out routine tasks contributes to a sense of accomplishment, positively impacting the emotional aspect of the healing process.
Consultation and Proper Usage
As with any medical device, it’s essential to consult with a healthcare professional before using a knee walker, especially during the early stages of ankle fusion recovery. A healthcare provider can assess your specific condition and advise on the appropriate time to start using a knee walker. Additionally, they can provide guidance on proper usage and safety precautions to ensure a smooth and successful recovery.
